CHOOSE YOUR OUTFITS WITH INTENTION, BECAUSE WHAT YOU WEAR IMPACTS THE FINAL IMAGE.
STARTING WITH THE SIMPLE TIPS!
* WEAR EARTHY TONES OR JEWEL TONES... CARMEL, RUST, OLIVE, MUSTARD, TEAL, MAUVES OR BLUSH PINKS, EMERALD GREEN OR SIMPLY WHITE. BUT TRY TO NOT ALL WEAR THE SAME COLOR.
YOU CAN MIX AND MATCH SOLIDS AND PATTERNS. THINK SOLIDS, PATTERNS, TEXTURE, COLOR AND PERSONALITY!
*WE RECOMMEND THAT IF ONE IS WEARING BLACK OR DARK COLORS, THE OTHER TO AVOID DOING THE SAME. THIS HELPS TO NOT BLEND TOGETHER!
*BEING BAREFOOT CAN BE BEAUTIFUL. SO DONT STRESS WHAT SHOES TO WEAR, WE CAN KICK THEM OFF ANYTIME! (SUMMER TIME)
*REMOVE ALL HAIR TIES OR WRISTBANDS FROM WRIST. REMOVE KEYS, CELL PHONE, ANYTHING LUMPY FROM POCKETS.
* BRING A FUN BLANKET FOR SITTING ON! ITS A PLUS IF IT FITS WITH YOUR COLOR PALLETE. MEANINGFUL PATCHWORK QUILT, OLD KNIT BLANKETS, BLANKETS WITH FRINGE AND TEXTURE.
* OUTFITS & LOCATION GO HAND IN HAND. SO WE WILL WANT TO KNOW THE KIND OF SETTING YOU ARE WANTING TO SHOOT IN, OR THE TYPE OF OUTFIT COLORS YOU WILL BE WEARING!
MAMAS AND LADIES!
THIS IS FOR YOU!
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO PICK WHAT YOU ARE WEARING FIRST AND THEN EVERYONE ELSE TO FOLLOW. IF YOU BASE YOUR OUTFIT OFF OF ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBERS', YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF STRESSING ABOUT WHAT TO WEAR!
Why are dresses a go to? An easy, all in one outfit- sort of like a fancy onesie!
*A number one question clients ask- "What do I do with my hands?"
If you have a dress, you can grab the length and hold it in one of your hands.
*Dresses (especially lighter material like chiffon, and/or lengthy dresses) offer movement to photographs, as the breeze picks them up.
*What you wear can really elevate the photo next level. A dress as a go-to, rather than jeans, is an easy option to add some whimsy or elegance to your images.
What to look for when choosing a dress OR outfit!
-Earthy tones, because we shoot in natural settings. We've learned from experience which colors photograph well and edits well for the final image. Bright colors bring too much focus to one or more persons, & don't blend well with the natural setting. Instead, it seems out of place. Neon colors especially will reflect on faces & skin!
-When choosing a dress, choose something light and flowy, or lengthy & full of fabric.
-Choose earthy tones as named above. You can also go with patterns, lace, stripes...
-If it's winter, bring a chunky cardigan, or wear leggings underneath if you don't handle cold well!
-You can bring accessories such as flat-brimmed hats, chunky cardigans & so on to add or take away for fun.
-If wanting to wear something other than a dress, go for it!
Think, WOMEN'S TROUSERS AND A RELAXED TEE FOR A CASUAL LOOK, A LONG JUMPSUIT/ROMPER, RIPPED BOYFRIEND JEANS AND CHUNKY SWEATER OR BLOUSE WITH DETAILS (such as off the shoulder, dolman sleeves, crop, deep v.. so on!), CUT OFF SHORTS & CASUAL BLOUSE
....ALL CAN BE HUGE STATEMENTS FOR THE OVERALL LOOK AND LOCATION. MAMA/LADIES CAN LEAD THE FASHION TRAIN, & FAMILY CAN FOLLOW ,SO IF YOU ARE A FASHIONISTA, OR MORE OF THE STYLISH CASUAL TYPE, WE CAN GO FOR THAT AND INTENTIONALLY PICK A SETTING THAT PAIRS WELL!
MAKEUP- If you are the type to wear makeup, this is the time to do it and go all out! If you like a full face, lipstick and even fake eyelashes really help make you and your eyes stand out! Now, this is totally a preference thing. You do not have to wear makeup, this is just a tip for those who do! :)
NOW FOR THE GENTLEMEN!
-Either dress it up with a button-up, nice pants and Oxford shoes.. or go with a laid back v neck/ crew neck, pants or shorts, and even run barefoot with your lady if you want!
-Try to stick with the color recommendations! If you can, try to avoid chambray, light blue or even dark blue shirts and button-ups. These tones tend to cause the entire image to appear cold, which while editing creates trouble in finding the balance between trying to create warm images. :)It's more of a post/editing thing that we have found along the way. Can't go wrong with an oatmeal-colored shirt or button-down!
-Colored pants (A great color is Carmel, it edits really well!).
-Guys can bring a blazer, or denim jacket, even a flat-brimmed hat/ fedora hat or beanie!.. these kinds of things that can be added or taken away and add so much personality! If you resonate with one of these items and it is truly part of your personality, wear it! Come on guys! I know you wear beanies it's the PNW! Ha!
You both can decide how formal or how laid back you want this to feel!
-Refer to the ladies and the gentlemen section. However, we do recommend couples bringing a second outfit if you feel like you are really good at putting together a stylish, casual outift. Something more relaxed that you can run around in and really feel like yourself! Think relaxed, but also brings the details and personality!
-Mostly stick with the color recommendations.
-Little girls, sweet dresses or jumpsuits. Ruffle details are fun! Bows and bonnets to add personality!
-Little boys. Oh the joy of being a little boy and not even having to worry about clothes. If it is summer how cute if he is wearing shorts and no shirt! or shorts/ pants with suspenders and no shirt or a shirt! So easy! Overalls, boy rompers, colored pants and henley tees. Little boys can be so easy but also very fun to dress! Suspenders could be the main part of the outfit for your little guy!
-Children's clothing should flow with the rest of the family. You can mix and match patterns with solids. Try to avoid all wearing the same color.
-Check the sites below for awesome children's wear!
-For IN-HOME OR STUDIO NEWBORN babies, wear soft and cozy neutrals (greys, off whites, whites, tans). This soft-feel compliments the new, squishy baby.
OR just a nakey baby in his diaper. Your baby will only be this small and fresh once, and the time is fleeting.
OR neutral/earthy tone swaddled! have a swaddle ready or bring one! I always bring an earthy colored swaddle ready to use if you don't!
-For an outdoor baby! Baby rompers, baby bloomers, and long socks, baby overalls, warm cozy layers. Neutral or earthy tones. Baby bonnets, knit or linen.
-Girls! Earthy tones. Midi dress! Jumpsuit! High waisted jeans and a blouse that offers detail! Cardigan to throw over any outfit if it's cold! Or something that reflects your style, keeping in mind the color suggestions.
-Boys! Earthy tones. Colored pants, Khaki or denim. Solid or pattern crew neck or button up. Or something that reflects your style, keeping in mind the color suggestions.

NOTE THAT: LOCATIONS & OUTFITS GO HAND IN HAND
BEGINNING WITH COLORS:
FROM EXPERIENCE WE HAVE LEARNED THAT SHOOTING PINKISH TONES, MAROONS, BURGANDYS, & SUCH HUES DONT DO WELL PAIRED WITH DARK OR RICH GREEN SETTINGS, SUCH AS MOST OF THE DECEPTION PASS PARK AREAS.
HOWEVER, THESE COLORS PHOTOGRAPH WELL IN FIELD SETTINGS WITH BROWNISH OR GOLDEN GRASS, AS WELL AS BEACH AREAS WITH LESS PINE TREES AND JUTTING ROCKS.
ON THAT NOTE, LOCATIONS...
DIFFERENT LOCATIONS CAN PAIR WELL WITH DIFFERENT LOOKS. WE USUALLY RECOMMEND LONG, FLOWY DRESSES, AS SPOKEN ABOUT ABOVE.
BUT IF DONE RIGHT, AND IN THE RIGHT SETTING, (PICTURE SAND AND BEACH GRASS) WOMENS TROUSERS AND A BLOUSE, A LONG JUMPSUIT/ROMPER, RIPPED BOYFRIEND JEANS AND CHUNKY SWEATER, CUT OFF SHORTS & CASUAL BLOUSE....CAN ALL BE HUGE STATEMENTS FOR THE OVERALL LOOK AND LOCATION. MAMA CAN LEAD THE FASHION TRAIN, & FAMILY CAN FOLLOW.
SO IF YOU ARE A FASHIONISTA, OR MORE OF THE STYLISH CASUAL TYPE, WE CAN GO FOR THAT AND INTENTIONALLY PICK A SETTING THAT PAIRS WELL!
